Crescent Avenue Weekday School is an accredited Fort Wayne daycare center within a Christian atmosphere. Programs for ages 2-12 are offered including full-day care, before and after school care, and summer school care. Focus is given to reinforcing a child's self-worth and working cooperatively with others through a variety of group activities and opportunities for play.

At Crescent Avenue, we see each child as a unique and valuable individual. Each child's interests and needs are met through observations and an understanding of child development. We help children work through behaviors with individualized methods and techniques from Conscious Discipline. Crescent Avenue has secure entrances to the building. We have an "open door" to all parents. We encourage families to be involved in our program. High Scope Educational Approach is the chosen curriculum. This is an "active learning" approach to the education of children.

Staff

Crescent Avenue Weekday School screens everyone who is employed at our center. Employees receive T.B. tests, physicals and drug screenings. Also, a local and state criminal history report and a Child Protective Service inquiry. Each employee receives an 8-hour orientation at the beginning of their employment. This covers information about their employment, our curriculums, policies and procedures, Indiana's Academic Standards and Inclusive child care. The staff receives monthly training on a variety of subjects from child development to health and safety to developmentally appropriate practices. The staff need to attend 20+ hours of training per year. All staff receive training in CPR, First aid and How to Detect Child Abuse. Crescent Avenue is a very "close" center. The staff know at least 90% of our children's first names. Our staff substitutes in other classrooms. Also, the office manager and the assistant director will substitute in classrooms to provide consistency for the children.

Accreditation

The Weekday School is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and has been recognized by the National Council of Recognition, a Division of Ecumenical Childcare Network. The school is licensed by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration - Division of Family Resources, and has a capacity for 135 children.
