Energetic Praise, Meaningful Worship

In the spring of 1910, Andrew Carnegie (the wealthy philanthropist and founder of Carnegie Steel Company) donated $600 towards the purchase of an organ for Crescent Avenue Church. Unfortunately, the organ as well as much of the church property was severely damaged in the flood of 1913. The flood that year left the church in eight feet of water for several days and left 15,000 area people homeless. The instrument was rebuilt four years later and served the church for the next seventeen years.

In 1934, a new Kilgen Organ was installed at a cost of $2,775.00. This organ was originally built with thirteen ranks and two manuals.

Then in 2013, the church installed a Rodgers Infinity digital organ console that would integrate with the existing pipes to form a digital and pipe hybrid system. The resulting instrument retains the capabilities of the 1934 Kilgen Organ and adds 142 digital stops sampled from grand organs around the world as well as beautiful orchestral instruments which makes for a truly versatile instrument.

Chancel Choir

One of the most favorite groups at Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church is the Chancel Choir. Every Sunday morning the choir adds to the worship experience singing inspiring anthems with great enthusiasm and joy. Special choir programs are done for Christmas, Easter, and Music Sunday which is a service done entirely with music. On occasion the singers will even step forward and sing solos which are always appreciated. New members are welcome and encouraged to join! Choir practice is held Wednesday nights at 7pm. Contact Paul Kendall, the Director of Music, about joining our fun group.

The Crescent Ringers

Once a month at Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church something very special happens - the Crescent Ringers, our handbell group, comes together to play a song for the congregation. The church has a beautiful set of handbells which includes a full five octaves. We meet at 5:45pm on Wednesdays before choir practice. Contact Paul Kendall, the Director of Music, about joining the Crescent Ringers.
